Review: Awakening The Warriors

I'd been hearing good things about author S.E. Gilchrist, so when I saw this on Net Galley, I jumped at the chance to read and review it.

My feelings about it ended up being mixed. It falls somewhere between a long short story and a very short novella at around 15k. Overall, I enjoyed this and I will be checking out more of S.E.'s work. The world she creates in this sci-fi erotic short is interesting and I would definitely like to know more about it. I didn't have time to connect with the characters, and I don't feel there was enough story here to fully develop them, but I did sympathize with them and I liked them.

The writing felt disjointed, with sentences phrased oddly and words thrown in that felt out of place. However, that could be because S.E. is an Australian author and perhaps the writing style is different in Australia.

So please, take that comment with a dash of salt. There were a few (very few) grammar issues, but I read the advanced copy which may not have been fully edited at the time. On a stylistic level, parts of the story felt rushed, and many of the transitions between scenes were rough. I would have loved for this to be a full length novella at maybe three times the length where we readers could become fully vested in the story and the characters. Both were interesting enough (story and characters) that I feel it would make an excellent longer novella.

Contains one very well done explicit m/f/m sex scene.

Review: Gone With The Wolf

When I saw this erotic romance on Net Galley, I knew I had to read it! I'd never read any of Kristin Miller's novels before, but I had heard good things about her. Now I know why!

This book surprised me in a very good way. I was leery at first of this 'fated to be mated' plot, fearful that it would be like the many that have come before it. But it was unlike any of them. The chemistry between Emelia and Drake was fiery, tumultuous, and totally believable. Emelia's spunk had me cheering for her, and Drake's tenderness had me swooning for him. The romance between them develops at a perfect, slow pace, despite their instant attraction. I'll be looking for more of this author's work!

It earned four solid flames. I would recommend this book for fans of paranormal and steamy romance. There is one explicit m/f sex scene.

A Hot Excerpt Involving Hot Aliens

I get the distinct pleasure of bringing you an extended excerpt from Jessica E. Subject's upcoming erotic sci-fi novel! First, here is a bit about it:

Alien Adoration
Alien Next Door book 1
By Jessica E. Subject
Erotic Sci-Fi Romance
ISBN: 978-0991932009

Erotic dreams fill her with need…

Night after night, Rachel fantasizes about her sexy, playboy neighbor. But in her small town, no one changes, least of all the bad boy next door. But when Luke rescues her not once but twice from disastrous dates, she dares to believe her knight in black leather armor may be the right man for her after all.

Until she learns the truth...

Life on Earth has never been easy for Luke. Stranded as a little boy, he struggled to craft an existence for himself, but he never forgot the first human he met--and he never stopped wanting to see her again. Returning to Hanton, Luke longs for Rachel. Yet, nothing goes as he plans, and Rachel barely notices him. Convincing her he isn't like all the jerks she's dated means telling her the truth, but can she handle it?

Can she overcome her fears, or will she deny her alien adoration and leave him stranded once more?

Excerpt:
     “Need a lift?”
The voice was deep and masculine, one she didn’t hear very often, but would recognize anywhere. Luke. Wonderful! He wouldn’t talk to me before, but now that I’m topless and sopping wet, he notices me.
She circled slowly to stare at the leather-clad figure sitting atop his motorcycle. The visor of his helmet covered most of his face, leaving only his luscious lips and deep, jutting chin, covered in light stubble, exposed. What would they feel like against her lips? Between her legs? Her body tingled.
“Earth to Rachel. Do you need a lift, or should I leave you here in the pouring rain?”
Oh God, he knows my name. Since they’d never actually talked—she’d only heard him greeting his dates—her name on his lips came as a surprise. “Um, yes, I’d appreciate a ride.” On his Harley, and if she was lucky, in his bed. Anywhere. Her romance-first rule didn’t apply to him. He’d already seduced her plenty in her dreams.
Remaining on his bike, he yanked a helmet from his saddlebag and held it out to her. “What happened to your pretty blouse?”
Pretty blouse? He’d seen her earlier? “I….” Fluttering rolled through her stomach. “I don’t want to talk about it.”
She grabbed the helmet from him, fit it over her soaked hair, and buckled the chinstrap. Straddling the seat behind him, she fumbled with her hands, wondering where to place them, no bar behind her to hold on to. Oh, what it would be like to wrap her arms around him, lean against his wide back covered in leather. But what if he didn’t want her to touch him?
Luke pushed off from the curb. “I suggest you hold onto me or you’re going to fall off.”
The bike lurched forward with a roar. She clasped her hands around his waist, her fingers coming together temptingly close to his manhood, cheek pressed to his cowskin jacket. His deep chuckle reverberated across her skin.
“I told you to hang on.”
And she could lean on him forever. Being so close to him with pure raw power between her legs moved her better than any fantasy she had ever created. But what is going to happen when he takes me home? Or will he invite me to his house instead?
She pressed her lips together. Sure, she wanted to know what lay under his tight pants, but she refused to be another conquest. I can’t handle it.
He drove into her driveway too soon, leaning the bike over enough for her to slip off. She removed the helmet and handed it back to him. “Thank you. I appreciate the ride.”
Tucking the helmet away, he nodded. “You want to come over for coffee?”
That and more. Though she refused to go anywhere in her state of disarray. “Um, no, I’m kind of wet.”
     “Another time, then?”
She nodded. Shit, why did I say no? They could strip down together and have all kinds of fun. But he
drove away before she had a chance to retract her words.

A ruined opportunity. Would she ever get another?
A sudden flash of lightning sent her running up her steps. Reaching behind the outside light, she grabbed her house key and unlocked the door. In the foyer, she plucked her loose changed from her pocket and placed it on the table beside her purse. She stripped down to nothing then rushed up to her bedroom. Without thinking, she opened the curtains and glanced next door, hoping for another glimpse of her rescuer.
He stood on his porch. Grinning at her, he waved.
She fell to the floor, flat on her ass. Not only had she been topless behind him on the bike, but she’d just exposed herself to him. Everything. With her tall window, he must have seen her from her head all the way down to her knees where the sill cut her off.
Did he expect me to be there? Was he waiting to see what else I’d show off? Molten heat coursed through her veins. Her heart pounded. There was no way she could sleep tonight, not without self-fulfillment while imagining being ravaged by her sexy and mysterious neighbor.
Crawling onto the bed, she ducked underneath her covers, trailing her fingers down to her heat. With so much more inspiration, this promised to be her best fantasy yet.

Review: Cold Warriors by Clare Dargin

I love great sci-fi, can't get enough of it, quite literally. I wish there were more! This fell comfortably into the levels of great sci-fi with romantic elements for me.

Caitlin Driskoll wakes up from cryo after almost a hundred years to find herself in the midst of a war, fighting on a side she never would have chosen. Reluctant love in the hardest of times blooms into something deep. The way their relationship developed was natural and believable, keeping me caught up in their story.

I would recommend this for fans of military sci-fi who don't mind a few erotic elements. You can find it at the following links:

I received a copy of this eBook from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Why I Write Erotica

When I announced to my friends that I had an erotica novel releasing some of them gave me a response that ruffled my feathers a bit. Okay, more than a bit, if I'm being honest. Which I am.

One said, "Oh well, I guess you have to make a living." And they haven't talked much to me since.

Really? Really?! The reason I chose to write erotica isn't because of the success of the latest erotica book that propelled the author into stardom. I did not leap into this with dreams of being the next 'Grey' so to speak. Ever since I hit my teen years my writing has been spicy, to put it mildly. For the books I wrote under my other name, I was forced to tone it down to keep my editor happy. Erotica came naturally to me, so naturally that I have a file of deleted scenes from many of my earlier books that never even made it to my editor.

Sex is one of the basic instincts, one we all have. Couple that with the basic need for love and companionship and you have a powerful mixture for a novel. That has always appealed to me. When I was given the chance to write freely and naturally, I jumped at it. And I couldn't be more happy that I did. It feels as though the chains have been removed. And it doesn't hurt the sex life either. ;)

How about you? If you're an author of erotica, why do you write it? If you're a reader of it, what draws you to it?

Free At Last on Amazon

It took a monumental effort to move the mountain that is Amazon, but I finally got them to list Werewolf Wedding: Maid of Honor (the 5k excerpt of the full novella, Werewolf Wedding) for FREE! You can now download it from Amazon and get a healthy taste of what the full novella is like. I hope you'll give it a try and maybe shout out about it to your friends.

If you love werewolf stories, paranormal, and of course erotica, then this tale may appeal to you. It's scorching on the steam-meter with explicit m/f sex, but with a plot to carry it along.

Here is a ready made tweet if you'd like to help me spread the word:

Review: Instructing Adam by Selena Blake

I've been wanting to check out author Selena Blake's books for a while now and just hadn't found the time until now. Wow am I sorry I waited!

This is a sexy short story with a hint of DOM/SUB where the female is the DOM, loved that! If there was more of that in BDSM, I'd be all over reading it. Selena's writing is smoking hot with just the right amount of build-up.  I was impressed at how well the characters sucked me into the story during so few pages. The writing is polished and interesting, with just the right balance of action and dialogue. I'll definitely read more from this author!

I'd recommend this to those who want to check out Selena's writing style and for those who want a quick, hot read that will leave them inspired. It is currently free at the following site:

For my Kindle friends, you can download a mobi file (compatible with Kindle) on Smashwords.

Contains light BDSM, explicit sex, m/f.
